We are now in our fourth year of publication
and I am exceedingly delighted with our success thus far. Articles
for consideration for publication are being received on a regular
basis and we often receive letters of congratulations on our journal
from all over the world.
Since last writing I am extremely pleased to inform you that Dr. Hasanain
Al Sharif, from Egypt and Dr. Mokbel Chedid, USA have joined us as
members of our Editorial Board. Prof. Ossama Al-Mefty and Prof. Issam
Awad from the USA as well as Prof. Jens Haase, from Denmark have also
agreed to join the membership of our International Advisory Board.
I thank each of them for their interest and support in our journal.
In 1999 we offered an award for the best MD thesis published by a
young neurosurgeon. Unfortunately, we did not recieve sufficient submissions
to be able to grant this award. It was, therfore, agreed that we should
allocate this award to the country that actually submitted the highest
number of papers to our journal since its inception in 1997. The award
consists of covering the cost for two young neurosurgeons to attend
our PANS meeting in Beirut. Morocco submitted the highest nunber of
papers with of 13 submissions. The Moroccan Society of Neurosurgery
chose our two winners and these are detailed on page 116. Our congratulations
and admiration to go our Moroccan colleagues on their remarkable writing
abilities.
As I am sure you are aware our next PANS meeting is the 4-7 October,
2000 in Beirut and I look forward to seeing as many of our colleagues
as possible that can spare the time to join us. Prof. Antoine Nachanakian
will take over the reign of President at this time and I offer him
my full support. I would also like to take this opportunity of expressing
my sincere appreciation to Dr. Sherif Ezzat for his execution as President
of our Society over the last two years. |

Our next important meeting will be the European Pan-Arab Neurosurgical
Course, which is to be held in Bahrain in 2001. These are highly
educational courses and I earnestly encourage our younger colleagues
to take advantage of them, if possible, by attending.
As you will see from the following editorial from Prof. Abdelslam
El Khamlichi, Morocco has been chosen to host the WFNS Congress
in 2004. I congratulate Prof. El Khamlichi on achieving this nomination,
as this is a stupendous opportunity not only for Morocco but also
for all our members to become more actively involved in the WFNS.
It is planned that in forthcoming editions of our journal reviewer’s
comments will be included following the actual article but we would
still request our readers to write to us with any comments on articles
published for inclusion in our ‘Letters to the Editor’ section.
In fact please write to us with any comments you may have.
I look forward to our journal’s continued success and very much
look forward to seeing and meeting our colleagues again in Beirut.
